Abstract
The seed essential oil of Monodora myristica (Gaertn.) Dunal, comprehensively analyzed by GC and GC-MS, was found to be mainly monoterpenoid in composition (93.5%). P-Cymene (31.9%) and -phellandrene (28.8%) were the dominant constituents, while other major components were -pinene (6.9%), myrene (4.7%) and p-cymen-8-ol (4.3%). The compositional profile of oil is almost similar to that of the nutmeg oil, except for it relatively high -phellandrene content, which may preclude its use for medicinal purpose.

Keywords: monodora myristica, Annonaceae, seed, essential oil composition, p-cymen, -phellandrene.
